From Benin to Mali and more. Every spring for the past ten years the Mandigue culture of western Africa has shone brightly in Brittany. Complet'mandingue, - a play on words of 'completely crazy' - in Saint-Brieuc, is a festival full of passion. And fans are all ears!
'Liberté, sénégalité, fraternité' is the festival version of the French Revolution’s motto and, with its emphasis on world culture, it fits the Complét'mandingue festival perfectly. In addition to Senegal, the Saint-Brieuc festival honours Mali, Ivory Coast, Guinea-Bissau and all the other West African nations. With African millet beer and traditional Chicken Yassa to try, each year audiences are literally totally immersed in a melting pot bubbling with spicy aromas and a multi-cultural atmosphere. You can enjoy music, street art and film at this colourful and heart-warming gathering. Best of all, you can even listen to the ‘griot’, or wandering poet, who has plenty of stories to tell under the Baobab tree: according to an African saying 'when an old person dies, a whole library goes up in smoke'. Complet’mandingue, is a heady, lyrical experience where the fire of life burns strong and bright.
