The wheel of Fortune

A rolling stone gathers no moss, right? Lionel Pierres has set his electro rolling and gathers… Fortune! Together with Pony Pony Run Run, this Breton trio seem to be confirming a geological phenomenon that actually makes lots of sense: the famous French house sound is creeping slowly but surely from Paris into western France.

One fine day in 2010 an unstoppable album landed on our decks. Staring at the Ice Melt… twelve tracks and as many huge hits which would make Fortune’s fortune. Instead of just staring at his own reflection, the Morlaix artist Lionel Pierres was already showing off his many talents with Abstrakt Keal Agram. Forming a masterly mix with Tepr, this hip-hop duo are writing the pages of an epic which is still in people’s memories.

Rolling stones

More melodic, more disco – so are Fortune going for the easy option, drawn by the sirens of success and easy dough? Maybe not, since the Fortunate trio are so good at drawing on musical themes of all kinds. There’s no mistaking the signs: the tip of the musical iceberg is literally melting in the face of this new electro phenomenon. Pierrick Devin (Phoenix, Alex Gopher, Cassius) didn’t have to call upon his divinity – the producer took a blind leap, jumping into adventure both feet first. Stéphane Alf Briat (Air, Sébastien Tellier) didn’t need asking twice to bring his mixing talents to this brilliant trio. Bully, Gimme, Highway… While Pony Pony Run Run are whipping up the crowds with Hey You, Fortune are parading their hits and confirming a geological phenomenon which actually makes a lot of sense: the famous French house sound is creeping slowly but surely from Paris into western France. Full to bursting with cleverly recycled new wave influences, party-animal synths and their subtle cocktail of disco, pop art rock and synth, Fortune are living up to their name: stardom beckons.
